harvard, pssshhhhh

(okay, before my maniacal laughing at harvard begins, i have something else to putter on about. there's an intern (?) or employee (?) or who-the-hell-knows who sits across the hall from me, and she spends THE WHOLE DAY on the phone, complaining to friends and family about a recent incident with her car. it was hit; she can't get it fixed; jeep dealerships are being stupid. it can be summarized in 3 short sentences... but noooooooooo, she's spent the past SIX days jabbering on about this. what happened to a limited number of personal calls?!) sigh.

aaannywaaaay --
recently, it's been concluded that harvard isn't fun enough. cackle cackle cackle.

"long seen as too serious, college weighs opening campus pub." bwa-hahahaha. too serious? uhhh.. sure okay. maybe just snobby? it can't be called a "pub" (that's too... layman), it'd have to be called the "Harvard Yard Lounge" or something.

"...college officials are mulling the student-backed notion of creating an undergraduate pub -- a departure for a campus steeped in the clubby tradition of parties confined to residence halls and exclusive private clubs."

okay, i have a number of comments on this:
1. the photo shown above was included as a part of the globe article. the caption says: "Harvard students, from left, Lauren Broughton, Maura Graul, and Haining Gouihlock reveled at a party on Seaver Quad Tuesday night." lauren, maura, and haining, what the hell are you doing?! what are you holding? "reveled"?? oh man.
2. harvard doesn't have an on-campus pub? despite its long, white-man history that began in the 1600s? that's sorta sad. mit has... three -- the thirsty ear, muddy charles, and the new stata one. yay for us.
3. is harvard really seen as "too serious"? i've never ever considered harvard to be too serious. they just seem to .. well.. "revel" in different activities than say, more normal (haha) colleges down the street. serious is.. kinda boring?
4. ''Pub nights have changed the paradigm of social life at Harvard." -- what does that mean? what was the paradigm of social life beforehand?
5. zac corker, a 2004 grad, is "special assistant to the dean of social programming".. a position better known as the "fun czar." harvard has a dean of social programming? what's that? and the dean's assistant is a fun czar, who basically sits around coming up with ideas on how to get the campus drunk. how much does he get paid?! ooh, and apparently, a fall "Harvard State Fair" has been planned, "complete with a mechanical bull." i don't even know how to respond to that one.

ahhhh harvard. what can i say.
:)
