dawn, and other stuff.
yesterday, whilst driving in not-terribly-pleasant traffic up 880 for an hour to the dear city of oakland for my official day in the office, i listened (a little teary) to obama's inauguration (and botched oath of office) on npr.
needless to say, it was great and inspiring and hopeful and all that. dawn of a new age! and i'm excited that bush moved back to texas and a new administration has their chance to do something good with this country, this world, this era. i hope the next 4-8 years are amazing, but i know they'll be tough.. and that's okay.
anyway,
i also realized, amidst all of this (and earlier in the month as well), that i regularly listen to npr. see, this isn't a problem, per se, but it IS something worthwhile to note because it was only a few years ago when i (accidentally) insulted my brother by reacting and exclaiming that OLD PEOPLE LISTEN TO NPR! alas.
whoops.
really, there's no point in denying that i'm old now. and i like npr. AND antiques roadshow on pbs. crap, i'm screwed. i'm an oldie at heart, aren't i?
other stuff: i've vented time and time again at my hatred of cubicles, and yet, the world still seems to revolve around them even in innovative places like.. um. san jose? silicon valley? right. they make me a little more dull, a little more glazed. but i'm still battling away at my long list of to-do's. however, for every thing that i check off, i remember something else to add onto the list, and thus, as satisfying as those checkmarks are, more text fills the page. it doesn't feel like an even tradeoff for some reason.
i got an iphone! that's right, i succumbed to the powers of apple, consumer marketing, peer reviews, and shiny objects. haha. it's pretty splendid, and i'll decide as the months proceed whether or not it's actually worth my income and firstborn. but as of right now, it's kinda fantastic, and i've joined (reluctantly or not) the ranks of pda/smartphone/not-simple-cell-phones.
itchy. both literally and metaphorically. always.
