hump days are always the best, no matter what, and today has been no exception. (no sarcasm here, i'm totally serious -- i love hump days!)
this morning, despite having gone to bed at the ridiculous hour of 2am (please remember that i am no longer in college, and 2am in the working world of 9-5 weekdays is late, so sue me), i woke up not-as-groggily-as-i-thought-i'd-be at 7:30, jumped in the shower, did my whole morning routine, and made it to work via the wondrous metro by 9:10. i was greeted happily by our new front-desk assistant (who is, by the way, a little too happy for his own good. yeah, i'm still jaded), and i proceeded to my desk on the 2nd floor, which was still dark ‘cause i was the first one here.
anyway, in the midst of the morning, while doing “work,” i reached for my coffee cup, filled with steaming hot, freshly brewed coffee, sweetened with two spoonfuls of regular sugar, and somehow managed to dribble a circular pattern of coffee onto the front of my light yellow shirt while taking a gulp. seriously, the coffee drips were in a circular pattern... just near my left boob. i’m just that good.
knowing that coffee is notorious for permanent staining, i immediately jumped up and ran to the bathroom. it’s a private bathroom, and you can lock the door… once inside, really, the idea of splashing water and soap onto my chest wasn’t appealing, so instead, i stripped and washed, dunking three-quarters of my shirt under the running water. and afterwards, squeezed it as dry as possible with the paper towels sitting nearby. much better – except for one tiny problem: my light yellow shirt, oh-so-lovely, now had a GINORMOUS wet spot (more like.. a wet crater).. and well, it was sooo obvious that it was wet. thankfully, we live in cubicles, so i hid behind my walls till lunchtime.
you think that’s the end? no way.
for lunch, since the weather is so nice today (seriously! i’m not kidding! bearable weather in DC today, come visit! once in a lifetime opportunity!) and because the a/c was freezing my still-damp shirt, i brought my lunch outside to the park. half an hour later, i returned to the office only to find the door locked. indeed, this sometimes happens because the front-desk dude goes to lunch or runs an errand, and we’re a small enough organization that we each have keys to the front door. but i didn’t have my key because i’d left it upstairs on my desk. oh well damn, back to the park for more lunchtime – i did, after all, still have an apple left. so i returned to my bench, sat down, opened my newsweek, and proceeded to munch on my awesome apple. five minutes in, i noticed something --- ahhhhhhh nooooooooooo, more dribbles on my just-dried shirt! man i suck. apple juice likes to stain too… sigh.
so back to the office bathroom (the front door had miraculously been unlocked, despite the fact that there wasn’t anyone at the front desk). strip, wash, dry again. this whole routine is getting pretty insane. and alas, 4 hours after the first fiasco, my shirt has, once again, an enormous wet crater on the front of it.
haha. but it’s still nice outside, and i finished my apple, and now, it’s back to work for the rest of the afternoon. and hump day’s still looking good. :) oh, and i have no more food or drink left, so hopefully, i won’t have to do the strip-wash-dry cycle for a third time today. haha, just in case you wanted to know. :O)
